Diesel, ready to wear, fall-winter 2009-2010

Kenneth wrote (in his Norwegian blog) about a very interesting phenomen created by the brand name Diesel. They are now rolling out a new consept they have named Diesel Cam in their stores in Spain.

It works like this: Diesel have placed a touch screen outside the dressing rooms in their stores. The user can there log in to their Facebook account. They shoot pictures of themselves with the Diesel Cam. The application allow them to scale the pictures and comment them before they upload it directly to their Facebook page.

Now their friends can comment if they like the clothes without physically having to be with them in the store.

See the Youtube video of how it works:

I agree with Kenneth about what kind of effect this might have for the Diesel brand:

  • Visitors in Diesel’s physical stores spreads the word about Diesel – for free.
  • People get curious about Diesel.
  • You will see that your friends use Diesel (maybe they even look hot in their clothes?)
  • The advertisement value lasts for longer then just a  few seconds – most people will probably not delete the pictures.
  • Diesel has now a first-mover advance. They were the first to actually integrate a real, physical store with social media. This can provide them with tons of good publicity in the months to come (like this blog post).

Internet gets more and more integrated into our daily lives.

Diesel could use this as a way to get people to enter their webstore.

A Carrot, an Egg, and a cup of Coffee

Poop Coffee: Drink Me!

My brother mailed me a very intersting piece for thought. Absolutely worth sharing! It’s written by Denice Williams.

You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans… She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ‘ Tell me what you see’

‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied…

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hardboiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, mother?’

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The
ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

‘Which are you?’ she asked her daughter. ‘When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a soft heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level. How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Filed under: Pinging services, Social Media, Uncategorized — Tags: , , — admin @ 6:44 pm

I have tried to reach Twingly.com and Twingly.no as well a lot of times today, but it looks like it’s not reachable. Is it just here from Egypt it’s a problem, or are they really down globally?

blog.twingly.com is reachable, but not the main site at www.twingly.com

Time is money

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:43 pm

Yes. We’ve been hearing this phrase since our childhood. At first time I didn’t realize how true is it…

I love interviews. Sometime I interview young programmers to see if they can grow up into good helpers for us since we’re growing up and employees must be “grown” from their childhood.

When I’m talking with these boys (and one of them was a girl) first of all I look at their CVs. Here comes the first filter: good guys show what they have done, bad ones how what they “can” do.

“Why didn’t you specify the list of things you done before?”

“Oh they were just couple of sites but I can do much larger things”

“How would I know that if I didn’t see none of your works”

And then after some blah blah blah comes my favorite second part. I call it “how much money did you really made on this site”

“Okay, let’s see some of your sites”

And he shows me couple of his sites: good or bad.

“What did you make them with?”

“What do you mean?”

“Framework, cms, components, whatever…”

“That’s lame! I use things made by my own hands and brain. Only losers would use some others’ things.”

And now comes the time to teach him a lesson.

“How much does your time cost?” — I ask him.

“Well… I never worked for blah blah blah…”

“Just tell me how much would cost me an hour of your work!”

And after using 100% of his brain calculations guy’s giving me an answer. Very modest one.

“XX dollars”

“Then let’s calculate the real profit of this site you made. Tell me, please, how much did you get for it and how many time did you spend on it.”

In the end of simple 3rd grade math calculation appearas that site costed to him much more than to a client.

“Just think: if Mercedes was mining steel for its cars by themselves. That’s stupid.”

Never shy to use others’ ideas and technologies moreover if they’re in public access. Never shy to use powerful tools to ease your work. Tools and instruments: only them will bring your talent (if you got one) to a higher level.

We at oxydica got some talent. And we won’t let it become a prisoner of our self-complacence.

Preparing stuff for download

We are currently preparing stuff for Joomla and Concrete5 that will be generally available for download. What will be available this time is two different templates for Concrete5 and a filter-module for Joomla/Virtuemart.

Everything we release for download will be made available as is, but we will try to fix bugs if you find any. Please report back to us if you find any bugs in the code or design glitches. If it’s nessesary, we will set up a support forum for the free stuff. For now you will be able to comment on the downloads directly.
